There is a wealth of LRP events out there that are not your atypical "High fantasy" style. Events listed here could be anything from cyberpunk to vampire, low fantasy to Cthulu. Hey even LRP "cons" get listed here. :)
If you are travelling abroad and need your LRP "fix" or are just interested www.larpevents.com produce a worldwide LRP listing. Great if you're visitng the Continent or the USA. :)
